Chips Ahoy Windscreens (“we”, “us”, “our”) provides mobile windscreen repair and replacement services across Essex, Kent and London. This policy explains what personal information we collect when you use our website or book work with us, what we do with it, who we share it with, and the choices you have.
We are the data controller for the information described in this policy. Our contact details are at the end.
1. Information we collect
When you request a quote through our website, we ask you for:
- your name
- your phone number
- your postcode
- your vehicle registration
- the type of work you need
- how you would like us to get back to you (phone call or WhatsApp)
You can also upload photographs of the damage. If you do, we collect those images.
When you contact us by phone, WhatsApp, email or social media, we keep a record of that correspondence. If you go on to book work with us, we also hold details of the job, the vehicle, the glass fitted and any payments.
Our website automatically collects some information when you visit, including your IP address, browser and device type, approximate location, the pages you look at and how you interact with them. If you arrived from one of our Google adverts, we also record a Google Click Identifier (a “gclid”), which lets us see which adverts lead to enquiries.
2. How we use your information
- Quoting for and carrying out work — arranging appointments, ordering glass, taking payment, and handling warranty or insurance matters. Our lawful basis is performance of a contract with you, or taking steps at your request before entering into a contract.
- Keeping records of jobs and correspondence — our lawful basis is our legitimate interest in running the business and resolving any disputes, and legal obligation where records must be kept for tax purposes.
- Measuring how our website and our advertising perform — our lawful basis is your consent where required, and otherwise our legitimate interest in understanding and improving how we reach customers.
- Marketing and advertising audiences, including the Google Ads customer matching described in section 3 — our lawful basis is consent.
We do not sell your personal information.
3. Google Ads and customer matching
We advertise on Google. As part of this, we share customer information with Google for customer matching and similar audience services. This is an important part of how we reach people, so we want to be clear about what it involves.
We may upload details such as your name, phone number, postcode and, where we hold it, your email address to Google Ads. Google converts this information into a hashed (scrambled) form and compares it against its own records to work out whether you have a Google account. Google then uses any matches to help us:
- show you our adverts across Google services such as Search, YouTube, Gmail and the Display network
- avoid showing adverts to people who are already our customers
- reach new people whose characteristics are similar to our existing customers
- measure how well our advertising is working
Google does not tell us the identity of anyone it matches, and we do not receive any new personal information about you from Google through this process.
We also use the Google Click Identifier described above to report offline conversions to Google Ads — in other words, to tell Google when an enquiry that came from an advert turned into a booked job.
You can read how Google handles this information at policies.google.com/privacy, and you can control the adverts you see at myadcenter.google.com.
You can opt out at any time. If you would rather we did not share your details with Google for advertising purposes, contact us using the details at the end of this policy and we will remove you. This will not affect the service you receive from us in any way.
4. Other services we use
- Google Analytics — measures website traffic and how visitors use the site.
- Google Ads — advertising and conversion tracking.
- Microsoft Clarity — records how visitors interact with our pages, including clicks, scrolling and session recordings, so that we can improve the site.
- Google Maps and Google Reviews — displays maps and customer reviews on our website.
- Our website hosting provider — stores the website and the enquiries submitted through it.
These providers process information on our behalf or, in Google’s case, partly as an independent controller. Some of them may transfer information outside the UK. Where that happens, it is covered by safeguards such as the UK International Data Transfer Agreement or the UK extension to the EU-US Data Privacy Framework.
5. Cookies and similar technologies
Our website uses cookies and similar technologies to run the services described above. You can block or delete cookies through your browser settings, although some parts of the site may not work properly if you do.
6. How long we keep your information
- Enquiries that do not lead to work — 12 months.
- Records of completed work, including invoices — 6 years, to meet tax obligations and to honour warranties.
- Photographs you send us — kept with the job record, or deleted within 12 months if no work is carried out.
- Website analytics — as set by each service, typically up to 14 months.
7. Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have the right to:
- ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you
- ask us to correct information that is wrong or incomplete
- ask us to delete your information, where we have no continuing reason to keep it
- ask us to restrict how we use your information
- object to how we use your information, including objecting to direct marketing at any time
- ask us to transfer your information to another provider
- withdraw your consent at any time, where we rely on consent — including consent to the Google customer matching described in section 3
To exercise any of these rights, contact us using the details below. We will respond within one month. There is no charge.
If you are not happy with how we have handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113. We would appreciate the chance to put things right first.
8. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top shows when it was last changed.
